At Air Logic, we offer a broad range of custom pneumatic and vacuum product solutions to suit the needs of unique and demanding use cases. Some of our custom valves, filters, and other related products have been in service for 46 years without failing. This page will explore the custom product solutions and services offered by Air Logic.

Orifice Sizing

Standard orifice sizes don’t always address the needs of every application. We can provide all the benefits of a molded orifice in custom sizes. Air Logic’s expert technicians use pins and a mated mold to develop custom orifices that meet the exact flow rate needs that are specified by the customers. Customers can also set a needle valve in the design phase of the application and Air Logic will reverse engineer the necessary orifice size from there.

Air Logic’s custom orifice sizing capabilities include:

  • Molded nominal orifice diameter sizes from 0.004” to   .040”
  • Cv range from 0.00038 to 0.04
  • Flow range from 120 mLpm(ccm) to 12,500 mLpm(ccm) (ref @ 9 psi)
  • EAU 10,000+
  • Standard flow tolerance range of +/- 4%

Fitting Sizing

Barbed fittings work together with the tubing in the application to create the seal and retain the tubing. A custom fitting size may be needed depending on customer’s tubing dimensions, materials, installation force and retention strength requirements. Barb sizes are measured by the ID of the tube they are designed for, but the actual dimensions of the barb may vary depending on tubing specification.

Barb sizes ranging from 1/16″ to 1/4″ (Tubing ID)

EAU 50,000+

Barbed connections are a clean, time-tested, and cost-efficient method of connection. The hoop strength of the tube holds around the barbed fitting. Air Logic’s first barb is free of a parting line to create a good seal, additional barbs increase holding force for tube retention. Barbed connections are free of lubrication or thread sealant used in other styles of connection. Simply push the tube over the barb and the connection is complete.

Factory Presets

Factory Preset Switches

As the name implies, factory preset switches have been preset and tested in the factory before distribution. For example, the factory may preset a .5-60 psi switch at 38 psi to reduce complexity for the customer and facilitate faster installation. The customer has the option to adjust the switch after receiving it.

The factory preset testing procedure can help to identify any need for special characteristics. While pressure switches typically get tested for “on” pressure when the normally open circuit closes, customers can also specific a normally closed circuit if their application requires an “off” pressure measurement. The typical estimated annual usage (EAU) for factory preset switches is five or more pieces.

Factory Preset Regulators

Factory preset regulators feature shorter housings and shorter springs that reduce regulator height and provide a tighter window of adjustment. The primary purpose of the adjustment is to compensate for the tolerance of the spring rate. For example, the factory may preset an 8 psi regulator by selecting the appropriate spring and adjustments required to speed up installation and reduce complexity for the customer. It might also provide improved tamper-resistance in a system’s pressure control.

The testing procedure also helps to identify special characteristics needed by the application. For instance, the regulator can be set to an inlet pressure specified by the application instead of the standard setting. The typical EAU for factory preset regulators is five or more pieces.

Factory Set Check Valves

Air Logic assembles factory preset check valves using a specified spring that cannot be adjusted after assembly. In our check valves, the performance largely depends on the spring of the valve. Our factory technicians will specify a custom spring and appropriate testing based on customer requirements. While lubrication will increase the sealing and consistency of the check valve, we can also specify a valve as unlubricated when needed by the customer.

Air Logic’s check valve tolerances range from +/- 10% to 50%. We can provide tighter tolerances, but at increased cost due to spring specification and reject rates. Factory preset check valves have a typical EAU of 1,000 or more.

Product Combinations

At Air Logic, we offer numerous product combinations that combine two or more Air Logic parts under a custom product number. The most common product combinations are those using 10-32 fittings. For example, our factory can preassemble the F960 Filter before the F2804404 check valve to produce a filtered check valve.

We will provide assembly, bonding, testing, labeling, and packaging per specification on product combinations. The typical EAU for our product combinations is 100 or more.

Custom Molding and Plastic Materials

Air Logic and our parent company, Knapp Manufacturing, have been molding plastic products for more than 50 years. Our facility features a fully stocked tool room with design capabilities and an expansive portfolio of injection molding machines. Depending on the project, we will develop brand new injection molds and tooling, or create cavities that fit into existing Air Logic mold bases. The Air Logic team has extensive expertise with tooling projects involving fittings, orifices, and spray tips. The EAU for tooling projects is typically 20,000 or more.

We can work with a variety of materials, including numerous color options and fillers that alter or enhance specific properties. For custom plastic materials, the standard EAU is 5,000 or more. Air Logic typically has the following materials in stock:

  • Acrylic
  • Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS)
  • High-density polyethylene (HDPE)
  • Low-density polyethylene (LDPE)
  • Polyamide (Nylon)
  • Polybutylene/polybutylene terephthalate (PB/PBT)
  • Polycarbonate (PC)
  • Polyoxymethylene/acetal (POM)
  • Polypropylene (PP)
  • Polystyrene (PS)
  • Polysulfone (PSU)
  • Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)
